It has been a very long time since I have posted an article. The reason I am posting one now is because I want to “Pin” it for my daughter-in-law, Samantha.

Here is the recipe I use for potting soil:

This is actually called Soilless Potting Mix (for starting plants from seeds or cuttings). I can’t remember where I found this recipe so I can’t give a link to credit the person who originally posted it. If anyone reading this knows where the link is, please let me know:

  • 4-6 parts Peat Moss
  • 1 part perlite
  • 1 part vermiculite

Just throw all into a large container & mix it up. This recipe is for STARTING PLANTS FROM SEEDS OR CUTTINGS.

Once the plants are growing well, re-plant into POTTING SOIL:

  • 1 part peat moss
  • 1 part vermiculite
  • 1 part compost
  • Add a little water and stir it around with gloved hands or a shovel.

  • Then, just grab your containers and fill them with potting soil.  If you are using a commercial fertilizer, fill your pots half way, add a scoop of fertilizer and mix it in.  Fill your container the rest of the way, repeat the fertilizer step, and voila, you’re done.
